The Myth of Multi-Tasking By Johanna Hicks

The Myth of Multi-Tasking                Multi-tasking is thought of as a useful skill.  As a matter of fact, the kitchen is a perfect example of multi-tasking.  Preparing a meal and having each component ready at the same time definitely takes multi-tasking!  However, it gets a lot of people in trouble behind the wheel.  Most of us incorrectly assure ourselves that we can multi-task and use our cellphone while we drive.  After all,...

Scratched Record By Johanna Hicks

Scratched Record                Sometimes I feel as if I’m repeating myself, but it usually pays off!  Similar to a scratched CD or record that repeats and repeats, after a while, the words stick in your head.  The “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” series has been implemented many times, but it has proven over and over to be beneficial to those who attend.                The spring “Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” series is rapidly...

Know the Numbers: 90 (ninety) miles per hour...

Mom, What Do You Do? By Johanna Hicks

Mom, What Do You Do?                 Recently, I had an eye-opening experience.  Our family was dining at a local restaurant, and we were discussing school, athletics (our daughter, son and daughter-in-law are all employed with the Sulphur Springs ISD), movies, and work projects.  My son commented that he knew that I taught diabetes education, nutrition, and sewing, but said, “Mom, what DO you do?  Your job is confusing!”...
