County Judge Robert Newsom read the National 4-H Week Proclamation on the steps of the Hopkins County Courthouse on Monday afternoon. The community was invited and greeted by 4-H parents, members, and leaders. Decorations in “4-H green” covered the table and adorned the cake that was provided for all visitors.

Commissioners Purchase SUVs for Sheriff’s Deputies
Monday morning Hopkins County Commissioners accepted bids on road materials, road oil, and culverts, accepted a new personnel policy for the county, and accepted bids for new Sheriff’s Service SUVs and two used dump trucks. Gordon Sentenced to Seven Years Following Third DWI 3rd or More Conviction
In Eighth Judicial District Court Wednesday, David Gordon, 56, was sentenced to seven years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for his third DWI conviction. His third arrest for DWI resulted from an accident in May 2015 that sent a Hopkins County teenager to then Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Commissioners Receive Additional Funds for Immediate Work on Roads
Monday, each Hopkins County Commissioner received an additional $50,000 for road work in their precinct when Commissioners’ Court voted to move $200,000 from two different special road and bridge funds that are held in reserve for emergency needs.
